Diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) initiatives were the first on the chopping block for the Musk-Trump administration to remove the bloat and fester from the federal workforce. All federal agencies were forced to expunge any language related to or adjacent to DEIA. It is an all-out attack on what many refer to as wokeism. Phrases like gender-based, trans, and employment equity have been “registered as lethal weapons” against America (I made a Lethal Weapon reference—R.I.P. Lethal Weapon-era Mel Gibson).
Corporate figures like Elon Musk and Chip Wilson, the founder and former CEO of Lululemon, have lashed out at diversity, equity, and inclusive policies embedded in their brands. Over a year ago, Wilson was at the forefront of the anti-DEIA controversy regarding his “you don’t want certain customers coming in” comment. Other companies like Walmart (whose prices aren’t really that cheap anyway), Lowe’s (#HomeDepot), Ford, and Toyota (my Prius heart aches) also slammed the breaks on their DEI initiatives.
These anti-DEIA attacks have a more insidious objective: the reigning of white supremacy in the U.S. again. To achieve this, this Administration and MAGA have propagandized DEIA as a tool weaponizing the increased marginalization (LOL)of white people in the U.S. Such claims are equally ridiculous and harmful to many American citizens. The mandated rollback of DEIA initiatives risks eroding decades of federal anti-discrimination policy across Democratic and Republican administrations. Additionally, the mandates are emboldening federal enforcement agencies to bully the private and government sectors into abandoning legal efforts that promote social equities and address ways to eradicate systemic discrimination in the country.
While Musk and Trump’s first day in office was January 20, the DEIA witch hunt began as early as January 15. The Daily Wire reported about a Democrat operative who burrowed her way into a position at the tail end of the Biden administration and was fired the first week of the Musk-Trump administration as an alleged DEIA hire.

In early January, Elizabeth Pena, a political appointee for the Department of Labor’s Bureau of International Labor Affairs, posted about her return.
Less than two weeks later, she announced her termination. Her post received over 3,000 reactions and was shared 87 times.
Elizabeth, a Mexican-American woman with a law degree, stated that the Daily Wire used a social media post she made some months ago out of context, where she acknowledged pride in her Mexican-American heritage and how it helped shape her work. For the record, she advised on United States-Mexico-Canda-related policies.
Let’s be honest, however. It was most likely this LinkedIn post that did her in:

ReplyDeleteYour blog is very well constructed presents a great amount of information. I think the attack on DEI is scary for the political landscape. It is easy to see that it is just a use for veiled racism. The attacks on gender and trans related health terms is equally as threatening. Research papers with incredibly valuable information have been truck down for using such terms.
ReplyDeleteThis was an awesome read! You nailed the Musk-Trump administration’s attack on DEIA in a way that’s both sharp and hilarious. I love how you call out the hypocrisy of framing DEIA as some kind of threat while ignoring the real issues of discrimination and systemic inequality. The way you tied in corporate leaders like Musk and Chip Wilson added another layer to the conversation—these rollbacks aren’t just about politics; they’re about maintaining power structures. It’s super frustrating to see years of progress being undone, but your writing makes it clear just how calculated and harmful these moves really are.
ReplyDeleteThis is actually really good work, it's very readable and visually enticing. The attack on DEI really felt like it was coming out of left-field during the 2024 election. They are attacking social progress with a hyper-specific (and inaccurate) view of what DEI is. It's fascinating which of the big corporations stick with their intitatives, like Costco, and those who don't, Target.
ReplyDeleteThis post really shows how serious the rollback of DEIA policies is under the Musk-Trump administration. Getting rid of diversity and inclusion efforts isn’t just about “cutting government bloat” it feels like a step backward. It’s frustrating to see people like Elon Musk frame DEIA as dangerous when it’s meant to help level the playing field. Stories like Elizabeth Pena’s prove that qualified people are being targeted just for embracing their identity. Overall, this isn’t just about politics it’s about losing progress on fairness and equality in the workplace and beyond.
